Head Coach/Owner
Eric Magee started training in gyms at age 13. Initially, he worked out to improve his hockey game, but it was the challenge of the barbell that motivated his return to the gym each day. He found he was capable of intense focus when he trained in solitude. When he did train with a partner, he trained with his father. His father was physically impressive, moved heavy weight and guided Eric through proper technique. By age 15, Eric was a regular at the local gym. The heavy lifters respected Eric’s doggedness and lifted alongside him, offering their skilled cues. By age 17, Eric spent school vacation days hitting double sessions in the gym while his peers were at the beach.
With an insatiable hunger for challenge, Eric enlisted in the U.S. Army with the goal of becoming a Ranger. After completing the rigorous Ranger Indoctrination Program, Eric was assigned to the 1st Ranger Battalion in Savannah, Georgia. There, Eric entered one of the toughest combat leadership courses in the world, Army Ranger School, and earned the elite Ranger Tab. During his Ranger career, Eric was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan on special operations missions.
Once home, Eric’s determination to test his physical and mental limits enticed him to another sport: MMA fighting. Eric’s self-discipline and mental toughness earned him multiple tournament wins and, eventually, positioned him as a top-ranked professional fighter. The capstone of Eric’s MMA career was realized when he beat out thousands of national contenders to be cast on The Ultimate Fighter: Season 8.
Eric was chasing a new challenge when he discovered CrossFit. His career as a CrossFit competitor kicked off in 2009. The following year, he took 2 nd place in the New England Sectionals and 4th place at the New England Regionals, earning his standing as a powerful force in his new sport. In 2010, Eric opened his first gym: CrossFit Hingham.
A steadfast athlete and coach who leads by example, Eric placed 10 th out of 70,000 worldwide athletes in the 2012 CrossFit Open, earning another invitation to the North East Regionals. In 2013, Eric returned to Regionals – this time, after sweeping 140,000 global athletes for his place on the competition floor. His focus and grit proved unparalleled as he claimed a 3rd place finish and earned a coveted invitation to compete in the CrossFit Games in Carson, CA.
Eric’s unstoppable momentum caught the attention of the National Pro Grid League. The Philadelphia Founders identified Eric as a strategic athlete who “excels at moving heavy weight quickly” and drafted him for the inaugural season. Eric’s training journey has defined him. The mental fortitude he developed in the gym has translated to his success as a coach and entrepreneur.
In 2015, his overarching dream was realized when Eric founded Personal Armour. Eric empowers a culture of personal growth through training. Under Eric’s guidance, Personal Armour members shatter the confines of self-imposed boundaries to achieve goals they never believed possible. As a coach, Eric’s purpose “is not to change who they are, but to help them become who they always should have been.”
